Here are the general steps involved in piano restoration:

Evaluation: The first step is to assess the piano's condition and determine the extent of the restoration required. This includes inspecting the piano's structural integrity, mechanical components, soundboard, strings, keys, and cosmetic aspects.
Disassembly: The piano is carefully disassembled, taking note of each component's placement and condition. This step allows for a thorough examination and identification of any issues that need to be addressed.
Structural repair: If there are any structural problems, such as a cracked soundboard or a damaged frame, they are repaired or replaced. This may involve gluing, reinforcing, or replacing damaged wood components to restore the piano's stability.
Action restoration: The action mechanism, which consists of the keys, hammers, dampers, and other moving parts, is typically disassembled and meticulously cleaned. Worn or damaged parts are repaired or replaced as necessary to ensure proper functionality and responsiveness.
String replacement or restoration: The strings may need to be replaced if they are old, corroded, or broken. The new strings are carefully installed and tuned to the appropriate tension to produce the desired sound quality.
Regulation and voicing: Regulation involves adjusting and optimizing the action mechanism to ensure consistent touch and responsiveness across all keys. Voicing, on the other hand, involves shaping and aligning the hammers to achieve a balanced and pleasing tone.
Refinishing: If the piano's exterior has cosmetic damage, the wood may be sanded, repaired, and refinished to restore its original appearance. This can include applying new veneers, stains, lacquers, or other finishes.
Assembly and final adjustments: After all the individual components have been restored and repaired, the piano is reassembled, and final adjustments are made to ensure that it plays properly and sounds as intended.

It's important to note that piano restoration can vary depending on the specific needs of the instrument and the preferences of the owner. The level of restoration can range from minimal repairs to a complete overhaul, and the process can take weeks or even months to complete, depending on the complexity of the work involved.
